Flower Girl
When I was a child, I'd always marvel at why my grandparents were always chosen as godparents on weddings. On school months, they have a wedding to attend to on weekends. On summer months, they have a wedding or two or three to attend to every week. And occasionally, I am "hired" to be flower girl. (I wish I knew what "talent fee" was back then). But I never liked to be flower girl because my Grandmother would make me wear itchy dresses -- frills, puffs, laces, underlinings, tiers, layers, glitter during the day; stockings, shoes, and VERY BIG ribbon in my hair. And I also always wear closed baby doll shoes. I have never worn a simple cotton dress and open-toed sandals as a flower girl. I also developed a fear of walking on my own on a long aisle while everybody's looking at me. It's so scary -- I felt like I was judged on whether I was a "good," or "cute" flower girl. I never managed to smile because I felt like crying everytime. It felt so lonely being a flower girl. And I hated sitting down through the length of the wedding ceremony. But I never refused to be flower girl. My Grandmother would kusi me. :P

Cut-out Dress
This thrifted dress reminded me of the paper snow flakes I made for our apartment last Christmas. This dress looked like I made fun of it. I didn't. When I bought this, it was already this way. Ok, I made fun of myself. This dress also emphasized I have two breasts, one on the left and one on the right, by placing strategically two flower-like cut-outs in the chest. Ok, ok. Good night. :)

I have seen many people use Pinterest but never really thought of joining until I saw cute pictures from a friend in Facebook. During night time these days, my room is cluttered with paper getting some scrapbook pages done, and I thought I could use some inspiration, especially color combinations and page layouts, not from actual scrapbook pages but from other sources, like weddings, floral arrangements, table settings, parties, etc. So I went to Pinterest, and.. I guess I'm hooked. I like it that I can make "boards" so my pictures are organized. Now, I won't have tons of pictures in my PC and my PC's memory will be allocated for work and photos from my camera. :)
The photo above is a photo I "pinned" from Color Collective, a really great source for color combination inspiration
Also, another great feature of Pinterest is it links back to the original source. No need for me to memorize or copy the link of the source. I respect copyright and a person's creativity, and I hope everyone respects it too.
Pinterest is a thrifty way of having fun, and getting inspired.
Happy weekend!

Sleep Clothes
January is end-of-season sale, but January was also insurance-payment month. And, as much as I would like to spend all money on beautiful things, it is best to save away some amount for when I can no longer afford to work as much to buy beautiful things on end-of-season sales... One day in January, before Sinulog and during the sale season, my cousin and I went out to the mall and this was what I wore. Before we went out of the house, she asked me if I am still sleepy. And I asked why? She said because I look like I'm wearing my sleep clothes. I actually was. This thrifted lightweight blazer is very comfortable that it was the first thing I got from my closet when the weather is shiny but a little chilly. Underneath it, I wore a camisole that I bought several years ago and has small tears already. I was almost wearing my sleep clothes, and I kind-of liked it. ^_^
Am wearing:
blazer - thrifted
cami - thrifted
trousers - thrifted
sandals - sale
bag - gift

The Angry Bird
Life has become more fast-paced, and people are praising the idea of multi-tasking. Often multi-tasking works, but often, it stresses you out, and leaving you accomplishing nothing, or, worse, accomplishing only mediocre things. It's still the second month of the year, and already I'm already dreaming and daydreaming of days and days of doing nothing and days and days of not worrying about anything. It has been stressful, especially with the earthquake that took Central Visayas by surprise (duh! They don't announce their arrival.) last Monday. It was my first time to experience that kind of shaking, and I couldn't move. I actually felt like fainting because our apartment's wall was swaying and there was a loud sound, like the sound of the engine of a volkswagen, underneath me. :( scary, truly scary.
Anyway, this post is, er the pictures, are dedicated to my sister.

The Mod Parade
Last December, I went to see a fashion show for works created by former college schoolmates. The collection were vintage- and fashionable mommy-inspired. The top dresses were by Sew Maui. She loves backless numbers and I love how she pairs them with a demure top. Very classy. The bottom dresses are by Shyne Allere. I especially love the last dress. Very fiery! :) All accessories used were by Chastity Manuel.

The Old Summer Capital
Hi, hello, how are you? Am still aliiive. :) The cold breeze tonight reminded me of the very cold nights in Baguio last summer. Although I may not have been very impressed, I still found the city very charming with its houses, pine trees, cheap taxi fares, strawberries, and very cold early mornings. Our 2011 Baguio trip is documented here, here, here, and here. And, speaking of Baguio, is it true that it is now called "The Old Summer Capital"? Why? When I was a child, we learned through our books that Baguio was the summer capital of the country. Growing up, I read and re-read a collection of short stories about life in Baguio and the Cordilleras. I cannot remember each story but I can still recall the feeling they invoked in me. I recalled most stories involved the night, and walking a long, long, lonely, and cold road to home. I also recalled dining scenes in most stories involved a kind of root crop. What happened to the summer capital? They said it has now been replaced by Boracay because in recent years it has been the popular choice for summer vacation trips. I have not been to Boracay, and I am not curious (weeh).
One of the souvenirs I bought from the Old Summer Capital of Baguio City is this green knitted cardigan am wearing in the pictures.
Am wearing:
floral dress - thrifted
green cardi - knitted from Baguio
gray belt - thrifted
nude pumps - thrifted staccato

Human Heart Nature
Being a consumer, and trying to be a thrifty consumer, I always try to make my purchases "make sense." While my small aparador is bursting to the seams, my beauty products are limited and well-edited. I am not a beauty junkie and do not hoard a lot of beauty stuff. I always want to keep things efficient. To illustrate, I don't want to waste water, and money, and products, I shampoo my hair every other day. This habit eliminated too much build-up in my scalp. While my hair is thin and fine and straight, and does not need chemical straightening, my scalp is a problem. I feel that my scalp is undernourished. I have tried several hair conditioners but they all failed me -- Creamsilk, Pantene, and L'Oreal. They were boo. Creamsilk was too heavy and left my face oily. Pantene was not effective and only left my scalp drier. L'Oreal was worse. I could not comb my hair after. It got tangled and was not smooth.
Then I discovered (advertisement?). Ok, ok. I've had a Human Heart Nature Catalog in my bed stand for almost 4 months when I finally decided to buy a conditioner. I was actually going to buy a line of products but I still had enough soap and shampoo, so I didn't think it was practical. This conditioner lasted me about a month, or less. I used it generously because I liked that my hair felt very clean after rinsing. I also used it every other two days. I felt I met my conditioner soulmate. :P But no. I did not like the calamansi smell of this, so when I finished this whole bottle, I bought another one, the one with Gugo and Calamansi and Peppermint, and I could truly say I was in conditioner heaven. I loved the peppermint and the cool feeling when rinsing.
What's even better with Human Heart Nature products in general is that they are "100% no harmful chemicals and 100% made in the Philippines." Based on this conditioner alone, I can say the product is of good quality and is well-priced. I don't and won't feel guilty buying these products, knowing I am not adding pollutants and not harming myself; instead, I am helping. The company, which is related to Gawad-Kalinga, has been in the market for some time and I regretted that I only discovered it last year. But it's never too late to make a positive switch right?

The First Movie of the Year
Every year, I always try to watch at least one entry of the MMFF. The past year we've been watching lots of Filipino movies thanks to Studio 23. This year, I watched Asiong Salonga. I'm not going to make a review because I am not a movie critic, but someone from the cinema actually clapped loudly at the end of the movie. He (because he was also cheering during the last fight scene) probably missed watching Pinoy action movies. This is what I wore when I watched the movie.
Am wearing:
dress - H&M, from my amiga in the eurozone
top - used as a jacket, from my baptismal ninang
shoes - from my aunt
clutch - from my boyfriend's sister
necklace - actually a belt, from my aunt

It's More Fun in the Philippines
The "It's More Fun in the Philippines" virus has bitten me. With a lot of people making "more fun" memes, I couldn't help but join. As a Filipino, I could list a thousand fun things in the Philippines (but at the back of my mind, I think only those who've been to other countries could say it's "more" fun in the Philippines, which makes me ask, is the campaign targeted mostly for foreigners and for pseudo-foreigners?) On to the meme, because I am a thift shop fan, I made a meme about thrift shopping. My boyfriend took this picture in Baguio where thrift shopping/ukay-ukay/wagwagan all started. :)

Happy Halloween
I remembered I had an orange long-sleeved shirt in high school that I wore when we had a tour. I thought people were thinking why is she wearing an ugly orange? My classmates used to tease me about that orange shirt and I did not understand why the teasing. Now, about 15 years later, I find the color orange difficult to wear. You'll look like you're in for a Halloween night. How do you wear orange?
Am wearing:
thrifted leather jacket
orange shirt, gift
white vintage shorts
black vintage flats
downtown-bought necklace

Happy New Year!!
Was 2011 a good year for me? Of course! It might not have been the best year, and I was ready to bid it goodbye even before its last day, but there were blessings and good things that came my way. I only remembered one resolution I made for 2011 -- and that is to get a passport, which I never did. This year, 2012 (because it's going to be the end of the world), I'll resolve to get that passport. I'll also resolve to:
* buy and wear more vintage. The "more" was placed after "wear" to emphasize that I'm going to wear more and not buy more. (so help me, God).
* wear more shoes, and leave the slippers at home. :D
* DIY. Make more handcrafted gifts, decor, and accessories.
* eat healthier, and drink more water.
* work harder.
* bond more with family and friends.
Happy New Year one and all! And thank you! (with all my love) hugs and kisses, Psyche
Am wearing:
polka dot dress - thrifted
