What They Don't Tell You

Photobucket

Probably, every place, city, province in the country is famous for one thing or another. But there are many things guide/tour books do not tell you. They don't tell you Iloilo has wonderful sunsets, no they don't. People go to Iloilo for many things, but maybe never for the sunsets.

Maybe that's why we go to places, to experience things people tell us and to experience things people do not tell us. Trips become more memorable because of the things we did not expect to happen. Like sunsets. But then, in this country, beautiful sunsets are common occurrences, and I guess, we are lucky that way.

What are your plans for summer?

P.S. Hope everyone had a good weekend. I had a fairly good weekend, which started with accomplishing a final requirement for school, and sitting in a huge chair at the not-so-newly opened Radisson Blu hotel (I think the hotel's very unromantic and cold), and eating clotted eggs and panini for lunch (yum!); and ended with hours-long chika with a friend who celebrated her birthday yesterday (happy birthday, marvs!) and thrifting for summer. :D

Numbers Letters and Fashion

Ann of Numbers Letters and Fashion is having a grand give-away for her birthday! She's giving away a Jessica trench coat (which I think is perfect for summer, as a cover-up for a cute swimsuit), an H&M hoodie, a Zara knitted top and a cropped plaid blazer (mga branded, sosyal ka, Ann!). :)

The mechanics for entry is really easy. Deadline for entry is on April 5. Hurry! Join na!

Spaghetti, the lazy version

Photobucket
Photobucket

1/2 lb spaghetti (in this dish I used angel hair because it's what's available)
1 pouch Clara Ole Sweet Style spaghetti sauce
Century Tuna flakes in oil (I took out the oil here to reduce the "fishy" smell)
olive oil
salt and pepper to taste
parmesan cheese

Very simple steps. Boil the noodles. Pour a generous amount of olive oil in hot casserole (generous so that the noodles will not stick with each other). Add the tuna into the oil, mix-mix a little, then add the spaghetti sauce. Let it simmer for a little while (about 30sec). When the noodle is cooked, add the noodles to the sauce that is still simmering. I don't know if there's a difference when you pour the sauce over the noodles or when you add the noodles to the sauce. I just add the noodles to the sauce because it's easier, saves time. Add a little ground black pepper and salt to taste. Top with parmesan cheese or whatever cheese you want. and.. that's it! Bon appetit!

P.S. The dish is best eaten with a cup of brewed coffee. Promise.

Style Inspire: Magazine Scans 2

Photobucket

It's the cute bike, and its color. And the cute thought of going to work (or school) in the cute bike with the cute color in polished clothes.

Photobucket

It's the leather jacket.

Photobucket

It's the sailor-themed clothes. And the fact that dark blue is a good alternative to black.

Photobucket

It's the comfortable black romper and the polished red.

Bucket Bag

Photobucket

I don't have a penchant for bags. I rarely buy bags for myself (except the linen shopping bags, which I can't seem to get enough of). I don't know how to choose bags, or how to match bags to outfits. I am also very picky when it comes to materials, stitches, and design of bags. If I have my way (and money), all I'd like to have are Chanel bags (ngek :P). That's why I treasure all bags I receive as gifts because they're free and most of them are beautiful. Like this bucket bag.

It's the Start of Summer

Yesterday was Ash Wednesday. A sign that Holy Week is near (if you're a Catholic). A sign that summer is near and here (if you're not a Catholic, or if you're a Catholic).

Around Town: Fuente Osmena Circle

Photobucket
Photobucket

Fuente Osmena is a fountain built to commemorate the completion of the Osmena Waterworks System in 1912. The waterworks system took 13 months to complete from January 1911 to February 1912 at the cost of 550,000 pesos.

The fountain itself symbolizes the march to progress of the city during the American-colonial era as vital infrastructure projects are completed such as the waterworks system. Prior to having a waterworks system, city dwellers had to content themselves with getting water from water wells, rivers, etc., which increased their risk of getting water-borne diseases.

The fountain is located in the center of a part in a roundabout that connects four busy intersections in the city. The park and the fountain completes the vista of a grand boulevard terminating at the majestic Cebu Capitol. [Info from Cebu Heritage]

The fountain, and the circle, is named after Pres. Sergio Osmena, Sr.
